First Team

DCCL Division One

Broadbottom 126ao v Dove Holes 128/2

Dove Holes win by 8 wickets

Dove Holes made the trip over to Broady knowing a win would secure the league title.

On winning the toss Grego inserted the hosts on a damp track due to the weeks weather.

Dove made a good start with Gilly picking up the dangerous 3 wickets of Walsh, Brotherton and Perrin to leave Broady 28-3. Mortimer and Croft then tried to rebuild the innings- the highlight being Croft hitting a superb shot half way to Mottram. Crich broke the partnership dismissing Mortimer caught by Gilly. Gilly then trapped Croft LBW with one that kept low to leave Broady 69-5.

Alam and Eaton dug in for Broady putting on 37 before Wats struck bowling Alam to pick up his 1st.He bowled superbly picking up another 3 quick wickets to leave Broady 110-9. The Rev then finished things off Gem taking a skier to dismiss Pratt with Broady finishing 126 all out. Wata finishing with 4-25 and Gilly 4-50.

Hally and DJ opened up again for Dove and batted superbly putting on a 3rd successive opening stand of 50. Playing sensibly on the slow deck and punishing anything loose. These 2 moved serenely onto 62 before Hally nicked off for 26. Gilly was next in and took the aggressive approach before he fell for 16 with the score on 84.

Eddie joined DJ at the crease with Dove needing a further 43 to win - these 2 saw Dove home with Eddie finishing things off with a straight 6 to win it in style. Eddie finishing 17 and DJ with a superb 61no to pick up the MOTM award sponsored by Beer Trading.

A fantastic win for Dove to secure the 1st division league title for the first time since 1970, Vamos!

Second Team

DCCL Division Two

Dove Holes 112/5 v Broadbottom 109/8

Dove Holes win by 5 wickets

On a glorious day at the Hallsteads arena, Dove 2s welcomed Broadbottom 2s. Skipper Cory won the toss and elected to bowl. Cocker and Ted both bowled well at the start but were unable to break the Broady opening partnership. Young Roy came on from the pavilion end and bowled very well, finding a breakthrough to leave Broady 51-1 after the opening 25 overs. The Dove bowlers then picked up regular wickets and bowled tight to the end leaving the visitors 109-8 after the allotted 45 overs.

Dove openers Scow and KC failed to get dove off to a flying start both falling for single figures early on. The home side were 55-4 after the first 18 overs before Vern and Wayne steadied the innings both batting superbly with a 50 partnership before Vern fell for a well earned 48 and dove needing just 4 to win. Queue the finisher as Nath Moss came in to score the winning runs with a delightful pull for 4.

Another great win for Dove and an even better weekend with the 1st team becoming Div 1 Champions for the first time in 54 years. Up the Dove 🕊️
