After Saturdays washout, where the only good news was that Mr Ip had reopened his famous doors, attention turned to Sunday’s Cup Double Header
First Team
Bissenden Cup Quarter Final
Dove Holes 176ao v Broadbottom 160ao
Dove Holes win by 16 runs
After Saturdays washout Dove entertained Broady in the quarter final of the Bissenden.
It was no suprise at all when Dove lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Hally and Baggy got us off to a flyer though putting 21 on off the first 2 before Hally guided one to gully. Eddie and Baggy then fell soon after with Dove 35-3. Forder was next to go with the score on 48 to leave the skipper and gilly at the crease.
These 2 put on 20 before Gilly was adjudged lbw- Wats put on 39 with the skipper before he fell. Rick Forder in his first game of the season joined the skipper at the crease. He played very sensible letting jacko do the hitting with the 2 putting 41 on before Rick fell caught on the edge.
Cocker joined Grego and batted for his partner as the skip went into aggressive mode before the last 3 wickets fell in quick succession with the skipper falling for a very well played 69 leaving time for a calamitous runout between Critch and Leano. Dove all out for 176 - a lot more than what we looked like getting at one point.
Gilly opened up the innings with a juicy full toss dispatched Into the community by Croft. Dove soon got into their stride though reducing broady to 8-3. Gilly 2 and Critch 1.
Mortimer and Pratt then put on 51 before cock trapped Mortimer lbw for a well played 34. Wata and cock then got another a piece to leave broady at 77-6. Dove were guilty of taking the foot off the gas as the 2 Pratts put on a good partnership of 31 before Baggy picked up Oscar.
This brought Crofty to the crease who batted sensibly while Pratt took the aggressive option. These 2 put on 52 and looked to be steering broady to the win with only 17 more needed.
However a bowling change to golden arm slow bowler Gregory changed things - probably should’ve bowled earlier with Dove missing the 2 front line spinning options. He trapped Pratt lbw for a very well played 65 and then bowled number 10 2 balls later. Critch then finished things off getting Croft caught and bowled.
A banana skin avoided for Dove who weren’t at the races - with a no drink policy now being introduced for further cup games.
Second Team

Hazel Grove 139ao v Dove Holes 143/4

Some good catching as well as more Wickets for Roy, Nath and Johnson meant the hosts reached a very respectable 139 all out.
In response Dove started very well with a 36 partnership between Jones and Collins before the Latter fell to a good ball. Jones continued to plod on with young Roy putting on another useful partnership of 32.
Hawkes Joined Keith at the crease before the big lad ran out of steam departing for a very useful 34.
The tower of power kicked on well combing with Dwayne Collins to put on 45 and leave dove on the edge of victory before a big Six finished the game in Style.
Rob Hawkes finished with a great 40 Red and a 102 strike rate. Dove 2s win by 6 wickets and move on into the Semi finals.
