BISSENDEN CUP FINAL

Dove Holes 156ao v Old Glossop 70ao

Dove win by 86 runs

After last weeks washout we hoped for better weather as Dove Holes appeared in a Bissenden Cup final for the first time in many a year.

Skipper Gregory won the toss and Dove batted first in front of a bumper crowd.

Openers Gilbride (19) and Jones (23) made a bright start moving the score on to 35 before Gilbride departed.

Old Glossop skipper Adderley then produced a magic over ripping through the Dove top order with a superb hattrick which included some impressive grabs.

At 39-4 Dove were in trouble and when two more wickets fell with the score on just 43 Old Glossop were well on top.

This Dove side bats deep and what followed was a superb match changing 103 run partnership between Shaun Cartledge and Joe Hall. Joe Hall departed for a brilliant 62 but Shaun Cartledge batted through finishing on 40 not out. Dove had some how crept to 156 all out in an innings which included six ducks and were very much back in the game.

Just as we were about to start the second innings we had a prolonged rain break which almost saw the match abandoned.

When the Old Glossop innings finally got under way a fired up Dove bowled with real pace and wickets from Gilbride (2 for 14) and Critchlow (3 for 15) reduced the visitors to 9-4.

Dan Waterhouse then bowled a tight 8 over spell (1 for 20) and Dave Cartledge picked up 3 wickets for 21 runs in 8 overs, as Dove pressed for victory.

Gilbride finished off the innings with a brilliant direct hit run out and knocking the stumps over sparking jubilant scenes as Dove sealed an 86 run victory, Old Glossop were all out for 70. Dove winning the Bissenden Cup for the first time since 1975.

Joe Hall picked up man of the match for his game changing 62 coming in at number 8.

The final was played in great spirit and we wish Old Glossop all the best for the rest of the year, we hope to see you in Division One next season.
