Dove Holes 283/5 v Newton 157/7

Dove Holes win by 126 runs

It was another sunny afternoon at hallsteads arena as the Dove Holes 2s took on Newton. Fresh back to the saddle of captaincy due to the Absence of Hilly, Moty’s masterplan got off to a poor start however Dove were happy to roll with it as the Newton captain put Dove into Bat. Little by Little the opening partnership of Kier Collins and Mark Vernon started to build an innings before the latter was given out caught Behind acquiesced in Darts decision.

Roy met Kc at the crease theses two continued to kick on as Kier reached his half century. These two put on a very good partnership of 48 before Roy turned for two and fell victim to some good Newton fielding. Young Roy protested but Mickey simply told him to stop crying his heart out and sent him back to the shed. The Tower of Power arrived at the crease and with Dove sitting at 80-2 this is where there innings went supersonic.

A staggering partnership of 171 from these two including 99 off 65 for KC provided some excellent viewing for the Dove faithful. Kier thought he was going to live forever having been dropped several times however eventually fell for an incredible 143, his second century on two games for the twos. Egg showed the importance of being idle having fallen asleep in the changing for an hour after a few too many cigarettes and alcohol the night before and he when he joined Hawko at the crease he certainly batted like it. The Tower eventually fell for a brilliant 82 off just 69 balls

To put the dove firmly in the high 200’s. A late run out cast no shadow over a brilliant Dove innings as they finished on 283-5.

Dove went out in the 2nd innings looking to defend their incredible score. Keegans early drop off Ste Greens bowling cast no shadow over the rest of the side as Ted Johnson struck early on to break Newtons opening partnership. Greeny didn’t look back in anger as Keegan caught the visiting No 4 on his 2nd attempt to get Ste onto the scoreboard. Young Roy came into the attack and took an early wicket to reduce the opposition to 72-4.

Two young batsmen came to the crease and created a wonderwall which the home side struggled to break down. Even skipper Gregory’s magic pies couldn’t find a breakthrough. After a frustrating few overs, Roy struck to break the phenomenal partnership and left the visitors on 110-5. Egg and Moty proceeded to slide away in fear that they would miss their pre-booked meal, leaving the home side with 9 in the field.

The rest of the lads decided to roll with it and a bowling change saw Wayne and Keegan come on to bowl the remaining overs. The visitors held out but fell way short after the allotted 45 overs found them 154-7 with the start of the game feeling half the world away. A great win for Dove 2s going into the remaining 3 games of the season!
