FLINT TAKES TITLE
12 current and former Dove Holes players took to the Staffordshire Moorlands to compete in the annual golf tournament. This year’s event was held at Greenway Hall Golf Centre, Stockton Brook in outstanding sunshine.
The bookies favourite was Corey ‘Tiger’ Flint and he was not to disappoint in a close event. The day started with Carl Storer hitting the first ball of the morning at 11am. After the first nine holes Corey Flint was joint leader with Andrew Gould, only for Gould to have a disastrous back nine that saw the end of his challenge. The player of the day perhaps went to Joe Gregory who kept chipping away (literally chipping them in off the green) who mounted a real challenge only to finish one point behind Corey. In third was ex junior Jamie Mitchell who finished 2 points of the leader. But putting like Sergio Garcia cost the man from Birmingham any chance of glory. Carl Storer and Mark Turner came in at tied fourth with Peter Johnson finishing sixth. Kev Waterhouse finished in seventh closely followed by Carl Neblett and Andrew Gould. The bottom three was made up one of the early favourites Jack Buckley, none golfer Chris Hill and in last position Phil Buckley. Phil certainly would of won any award for the best golf bag!
The team prize went to Jamie Mitchell, Peter Johnson and Joe Gregory for a score of 90 points, just beating Carl Storer, Kev Waterhouse and Mark Turner with 85 points. The closest to the pin award went to Joe Gregory, what even the pros would of struggled to beat and the longest drive went to Corey Flint by about 40 yards! An award went to Phil Buckley for his efforts on the course. Corey Flint won the individual award with 33pts, Joe Gregory second with 32pts and Jamie Mitchell third with 31pts. All had a great day and preparations will start for next year’s event
